Dogs That Know: Lily
From OpenSourceScience
Soliloquy (a.k.a. Lily) is an almost 9-year-old Great Dane in Ontario, Canada. Her owner, Deborah, suspects that her advanced age makes her especially tuned-in to her retrun trips home. Here is a log of Lily's behavior on two recent trips:
Saturday-September 29th, 2007
After taking Lily and Journey for a long walk from 8:15 a.m until 10:00 a.m., I fed them and got ready to go downtown with a friend. Told my son to please keep a schedule of what Lily (and Journey) are doing while I am gone-although after their play, I knew they would both just sleep.I left at approximately 10:30 and was out until 1:30.
At 1:10 Lily woke up, got off the sofa, went to the window and stood with her head resting on the windowsill looking out for about 5 minutes. Then she went to lay beside the entrance to the front door for about 5 minutes. Got up again and walked over to the window and stood looking out, until I came in the door.
Lily came over to the door when I came in, Journey woke up and joined her at the door to greet me, wagging their tails. Within 5 minutes Lily was back on the sofa, asleep.
Tuesday-October 2nd, 2007
Took the girls out at 7:30 until 8:30 a.m. Upon returning home, I fed them and got ready to leave for a doctors appointment at 9:30. My son did not leave for work until noon so I woke him and asked him to keep schedule. At 11:10 a.m. Lily woke from her mat in the living room and went to get a drink of water from the kitchen. Upon returning to the living room, she went over to the window, resting her head on the sill. Stayed there until I came in the door at 11:30. Journey woke up when she heard me coming in the door (Lily was already at the door when I opened it) and I greeted them both. Lily went to the sofa and lay down and went back to sleep. Journey stayed awake and played with her stuffy.
